LOUIS VUITTON FLOWER TRUNK

The story follows a disaster in the capital, the famous great flood of the Seine of 1910 , which turned the lives of Parisians upside down.

The orders for trunks could not be fulfilled on time. In order to apologize more gallantly by honoring the ladies, Georges and Gaston -Louis Vuitton decide to have a flower trunk delivered by boat to several loyal customers  in record time. Rather than send them banal of flowers embedded in the asparagus and glassine paper, they imagined this bouquet planted in a small trunk planter in Monogram canvas whose interior was isolated from water and humidity by a tray zinc. This misfortune of 1910 was such a success that the flower trunk continued in the following years.and thus anchored in the tradition of the history of the luxury House. There are dozens of different finishes, with different locks, clasps, interior papers .

Made of wood covered with mini LV coated paper and paper interior with  removable zinc tray  . The manufacture of the trunk makes the object very fragilewhich explains the rarity and the great value of these pieces today.

"This is the réducti o n a cabin trunk that my grand father offr has the best customers. She is magnificent. With these peonies and roses in a custom zinc box. Here we are closer to the jewel than to the trunk. I made the last ten twenty years ago, with accessories found in our workshops. And I had the joy of giving them to very beautiful women. When the flowers were wilted, customers brought back the trunk to be transformed into a sewing or cigarette box! "

1989 cardboard mini-trunk

In the Iconoclasts family, we ask for the uncles! We are in 1989, Ben, César and Arman, restless custodians of the new realism of the 1960s, lend their insolent creative genius to the Maison Louis Vuitton. For the inauguration of the building at 54 avenue Montaigne , the trio chooses to put themselves in a box. The result: a small cardboard trunk, fragile, cheeky and adorned with the mythical Monogram motif. Inside this precarious box, 3 jewels promised to posterity: an “accumulation” style brooch for Arman ; a pendant-case of a rustic kind on which Benwrote in his famous handwriting: "This box may contain a diamond"; and a "compression" spindle for Caesar , the master in crushing automobiles. Edited in 850 copies , 25 of which are signed by the hand of the artists, this trunk has fun madly and plays the mischievous encounter of prosaic materials and noble know-how. Or how to bring the world into a miniature exhibition.
